2004 Duramax

For the 2004 Duramax model year, General Motors implemented several innovative engineering changes which enabled a higher torque output for the 2004 Duramax engine. This was further enhanced by the refinements of the subsequent model year, which also included a reduction of exhaust emissions and the implementation of a variable-geometry turbocharger. The Duramax Diesel 6.6L is run by the direct injection principle, allowing more comprehensive combustion than the old style of indirect injection found in the precursors to the 2004 Duramax. This actually decreases particular fuel consumption by as much as twenty percent in the 2004 Duramax. Each 2004 Duramax injector is high-pressured and has its own solenoid to regulate fuel spray. The 2004 Duramax features an array of refined electronic controls which complement the 2004 Duramax's self-regulating turbine vanes which automatically alter exhaust backpressure and boost pressure in the 2004 Duramax to maximize power.

2004 Chevy Duramax Turbo Vanes

The vanes in the 2004 Chevy Duramax focus exhaust gas towards the turbine blades of the 2004 Duramax turbocharger. These vanes are adjustable to be opened or closed for varied amounts of boost pressure in the 2004 Duramax. The turbine vane angle in the 2004 Duramax is adjusted with the use of an electro-hydraulic mechanism. This mechanism in the 2004 Duramax is operated by engine oil and is similar in design to a camshaft phaser. The separate sensors of the variable-geometry turbo in the 2004 Chevy Duramax are adjusted by the engine control module.

Boost Pressure Regulation In The 2004 Chevy Duramax Diesel

A solenoid in the 2004 Chevy Duramax Diesel regulates oil pressure aligned with a piston which runs a small cam. This in turn runs on a unison ring used to maneuver the 2004 Duramax's turbine vanes all at once. As the 2004 Duramax cam rotates, it adjusts the angle of the blades in relation to the turbine wheel. The critical advantage: Boost pressure can be regulated by the moveable blades, independently of the engine speed of the 2004 Chevy Duramax Diesel.

The Variable Geometry Turbo Of The 2004 6.6 Duramax

The variable-geometry turbo of the 2004 6.6 Duramax offers many benefits that a conventional fixed-geometry turbo does not. Boost can be regulated more accurately and with a larger range of modulation, something you don't get with a fixed-blade turbine. The turbo in the Duramax 6.6L removes the requirement for a wastegate, typically the first component on a turbocharger to fail as the mileage increases in a General Motors 2004 6.6 Duramax turbo diesel engined pickup truck.

2004 Duramax 2500 Pickup Trucks Lack Turbo Lag

Since the variable-geometry turbo of the 2004 Duramax essentially changes resistance and adjusts the level of exhaust backpressure, it eliminates the need for the independent exhaust pressure regulator previously used to control compression or engine braking in Duramax 6.6 Liter engines such as those installed in the 2004 Duramax 2500. The 2004 Duramax 2500 engine turbocharger truly represented the state of the art in diesel aspiration technology for that model year.

2004 2500HD Duramax Owners Love Their Trucks

Many 2004 2500HD Duramax pickup truck owners will agree that the 2004 Duramax turbocharger's performance is one of the best features of the 2004 Duramax trucks. While the maximum boost available in a Duramax 6.6L V8 remains at 20 psi, the 2004 Duramax boost pressure can more subtly be varied over the range of the engine's rpm. This results in a much quicker response from the 2004 Duramax engine with practically no turbo lag. Just as important is the 2004 Duramax's engine control module which gauges many mechanical parameters in the 2004 Duramax, while regulating the 2004 Duramax turbine vanes to control boost. This allows the turbocharger in a 2004 2500HD Duramax to operate more efficiently. These factors set the 2004 Duramax apart from the competition.
