Duramax Diesel
Isuzu designs the Duramax Diesel for General Motors. The Duramax diesel is the engine General Motors uses for its largest trucks and vehicles. The Duramax 6.6 liter is a joint venture between Isuzu and GM and is produced by DMAX. The relationship between Isuzu and GM for the Duramax diesel ended in 2006 when GM sold its share.
About the Duramax Diesel
The Duramax diesel is a 6H or LG4, and the engine is six cylinder. The Duramax diesel is considered to be a commercial grade engine and there are more than 300,000 trucks by GM and Isuzu that continue with these engines. The Duramax diesel engine was paired with the 3000 and 3500 Allison transmissions.

Duramax Diesel Specs
The Duramax diesel engine specifications are as follows: 7.8 L I6 Turbo diesel with 7,785 cc of displacement. The engine has 4.53/4.92 in of bore and stroke and the block and head are made of cast iron and cast aluminum, respectively. The aspiration is intercooled and turbocharged and the compression is 16.0:1. The valvetrain is OHC 4-V and there are two versions, standard torque and high torque. The standard torque version has 200 horsepower and 520 pounds per feet of standard torque. The high torque version has 275 horsepower and 860 pounds per feet of torque.
Duramax Diesel Background
The Duramax diesel has an interesting background and the LB7 version appeared in Chevrolet models during the 2001 model year. This particular version was continued for several years until 2004. This particular model has 300 horsepower and 520 pounds per feet of torque in a 6.6L V8 engine. The LB7 Duramax diesel was an excellent engine and the biggest issue is with bad injectors over time. In fact, GM recognized this and provided a seven year or 200,000 mile warranty for the injectors. During 2001 and 2002 the Duramax Diesel engine was on the Top 10 Best Engine list. |
