5.9 Cummins Diesel

Cummins, Inc. has developed into complementary business units that design, manufacture, distribute and service diesel and natural gas engines and related technologies. Headquartered in Columbus, Indiana.

Cummins B Series

The 5.9 Cummins is a part of the Cummins B Series. The engine was developed by a joint venture with Cummins and Case Corporation. The Cummins 5.9 is a part of a group of straight four cylinders and 6-cylinder diesel truck and some industrial piston engines. The 5.9 series or B series is used in multiple segments like the Dodge Ram truck, construction equipment, buses and even military vehicles.

Cummins 5.9 Diesel

The 5.9 diesel engines was originally designed for commercial trucks and also was used in light trucks like the Dodge Ram, It has an impressive 610 lb-ft of torque at 1600 rpm, not to mention the outstanding acceleration from the 325 horse power at 2900 RPM. In addition to the 5.9 Diesel engine was used in the light duty truck Dodge Ram starting in 1989.

Other Cummins Diesels

Other diesel engines options were used as early as the mid 1970s although the early stage diesel engines were challenged by the fact that they were underpowered. This was cured with the 1989 launch of the Dodge pickup, by equipping them with a turbocharger. Ever since the 1989 initial roll out of the Dodge pickup, has come with a turbocharger. In addition to the upgrade in the horsepower, it has durable connecting rods and deep skirted engine block.

5.9 Cummins Engine

The Cummins 5.9 Engine was an innovator in the industry when it first came out. Cummins has achieved bragging rights of sorts, for their enhanced power, torque and acceleration. Now the Cummins 5.9 turbo diesel has enhanced performance and made great improvements in the overall performance and braking capacity.

Cummins Engine Performance

A key to the 5.9 Cummins engine's improved performance is the development of peak torque at low engine speeds, which make it easier and reliable for heavy duty jobs to have better drivability and acceleration and towing. The enhancement of their braking system has provided extra stopping power by utilizing an exhaust brake, which is recommended for towing applications like RV and flatbeds. The enhancements of the heavy-duty features of the 5.9-turbo diesel engines have provided some significant benefits. A few key upgrades to the 5.9 engine is there is a longer oil change interval so you save on your cost of ownership and the enhanced fuel system, including large multiple injections for quieter combustion.
